Security Issues
Organized in April of 2005, the security issues workgroup meets quarterly to discuss changes in the security issues landscape, share solutions and responses, and to investigate possible solutions to your security related issues.

Internet2 K20
We have formed an Internet2 K20 workgroup to discuss the concept of Internet2 (I2) use in education, learn about advanced applications that utilize advanced networks, and enable opportunities to collaborate using I2 and advanced network applications in the education community. We invite your participation in this working group. If you would like to participate or want more information, contact Dan Gross.
Your state representatives for the national Internet2 K20 Initiative are Dan Gross from SWING and Paul Gunther from UW Madison.

Learning Management Service
The LMS workgroup created and manages a shared, community-based learning management service based on Moodle, available to the WiscNet community, and uses the workgroup to generate a community of practice for members interested in the LMS.

Digital Districts Online
WiscNet Digital Districts Online is a group of K-20 educators who have come together to create an educational brokerage, where “education is serving education’”. What exists today is a catalog of over 400 online courses for K-12 students that are aligned with the Wisconsin State Standards and reviewed for quality. The group has a repository of more than 500 learning objects, online professional development opportunities, and sample policies and procedures.
DDO Principles:
- Supplement existing district programs, not compete with them and
- Be responsive to and representative of our members and our needs.

Critical Data Backup and Recovery
The Critical Data Backup & Recovery (CDBR) workgroup is our newest workgroup, that comes together to discuss critical data backup and recovery in the community. The first roundtable was held late in April, with the purpose of gauging interest, defining the issues and setting the next steps for additional meetings. The first roundtable was well attended by members of the WiscNet community from local governments, K12’s and higher education. Our second roundtable was held Friday, July 7th, 2008 in Madison.

Sponsored Participation in Workgroups
Non-members may participate in WiscNet work groups when sponsored by a WiscNet member. Here are WiscNet’s guidelines for participation.
- A WiscNet member may sponsor one or more non-member institution(s), that are eligible for WiscNet membership, to participate in a working group in which that member is currently active. WiscNet membership eligibility is set by Article Two of WiscNet’s By-laws (available on the web at http://www.wiscnet.net/Members/WiscNet_Board/By-laws/)
- The sponsor’s member-representative shall notify in writing the WiscNet Executive Director, identifying the non-member institution, the likely participant(s) and the intended working group.
- The sponsorship shall expire on the next June 30th. The sponsor may renew the relationship per item 2.
- MSPs may participate in working groups (maillist, web and teleconferences, test installations, and face to face meetings).
- MSPs must become members to use member-services developed by their working group.
- To sponsor a non-member participant in a work group, download, print, fill out, sign and fax the sponsorship form (http://www.wiscnet.net/downloads/MSP_form.pdf) to the WiscNet office at (608) 262-9085.
